THE HUNGER GAMES
- annual, one boy and one girl from districts 1-12, set in an arena
- nationally televised as mandatory viewing for all citizens
- quarter quell every 25 years; involves a twist in the games
the reaping
- takes place every year in the justice building of each district
- escort chooses names from two glass bowls; bowls contain names of children aged 12-18, entered once at 12, twice at 13, and so on until 18. if children apply for tesserae, each tesserae is an entry into the glass bowls, cumulative over the years. e.g. a child who has applied for 3 tesserae every year since they were 12 will have 20 entries at age 16
- age groups are contained in roped-off areas; everyone is required to attend
- held at different times for different districts to be televised live; from east coast to west coast (12, 8, 6, 11, etc.)
- someone can volunteer for another person; more common in districts 1, 2 and 4 (career districts)
- victors are no longer eligible for the games; exception is for the quarter quell, if the rule states so
mentors
- past victors of the games; live in victors' village of their district
- one mentor per tribute, unless there are less mentors than tributes
- give advice to tributes regarding alliances, politics, survival skills, etc. helps secure alliances, sponsors and gifts
before the game
- clothing determined by stylist, cloth square and district number pinned to shirt
tribute parade
- tributes enter the training centre in chariots, district 1 to 12
- first time capitol sees the tributes in person; important for sponsorship
- chariots and tributes often costumed to fit their district's theme, designed by stylist
training centre
- located in middle of capitol; has open roof, garden, excellent view of capitol, force field to avoid suicide attempts
- apartments: tributes and their entourage stay on the floor number corresponding to their district's number
- gymnasium: training stations to teach a variety of skills
- training: three consecutive days, starts at 10 am; tributes cannot fight each other but can request to practice with a trainer
- breakfast and dinner served at apartments. lunch served gymnasium in basement
- private training session: in front of the gamemakers, scored between 1-12 which is televised the night after
interview
- televised live the night before the games, 3 minutes per tribute
- in order of districts, male before female
- generally asked about life back home, in the capitol, their training score, the reaping
during the game
- generally starts middle to late july, at 10 o'clock
cornucopia bloodbath
- event at beginning of the games, contains valuable food, water, weaponry, etc.
- generally around 8-12 tributes die there
- later in the games there may be a feast held at the cornucopia; also can contain food, water, weaponry, etc.
other
- tributes allowed to bring one token; inspected carefully to ensure they cannot be used as weapons
- after the games the arena is a tourist attraction for people to visit, take photos, etc.
- gifts sent by parachute; short notes can be included by mentors
after the game
- 6 months later around mid january, post-game interview at victors' village
- victory tour afterwards through all of panem with mentor and team; goes descending 12-1, skipping the victor's district to save until last
- victor goes to capitol for more interviews and parties
- large dinner celebration held at victor's district, on last day of harvest festival
